Tata will make the iPhone in India

New Delhi, October 27: Tata will make the iPhone in India sooner.iPhone manufacturer Wistron’s board has approved the sale of its Indian unit to Tata Group for approximately US$125 million. With this, Tata Group is all set to become India’s first iPhone manufacturer. Wistron said the deal is valued at approximately US$125 million.

“The Board of Directors of Wistron Corp met today and approved the merger of its subsidiaries S.M.S. Infocom (Singapore) Pte Ltd and Wistron Hong Kong Ltd into Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd (TEPL),” with Wistron Infocom Manufacturing (India) Private Limited (WMMI) for sale of 100 percent stake in Wistron Infocom Manufacturing (India) Pvt. Ltd. (WMMI). The deal will proceed to obtain necessary approvals after both parties sign the relevant agreements. “After completion of the deal, Wistron will make necessary announcements as per regulation and information to the stock exchanges,” the statement said.
