Government Ban export of onion till March next year

New Delhi: The Modi government has taken big action to control the rising price of onion in the country. The government has banned onion exports till March next year to increase domestic availability and curb prices. The notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) states that the policy of export of onion has been changed from free to a restricted category till March 31, 2024. Let us tell you that the price of onion in the domestic market has reached Rs 60 to Rs 65 per kg. Given this, this step will help in reducing the price and people will not have to cry tears of onion.

The price of plates increased
The price of normal vegetarian and non-vegetarian thali is increasing every month due to rising prices of onion and tomato. Crisil MI&A Research said in its report that the prices of onion and tomato have increased by 58 percent and 35 percent every month. Onion and tomato prices increased due to lower production in the Kharif season due to festival demand and irregular rainfall. According to the report, the prices of homemade vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis increased by 10 percent and five percent respectively. Every month, chicken prices declined marginally by one to three percent.

The big increase of 93% in onion prices
The cost of chickens contributes 50 percent to the price of a non-vegetarian thali. The price of vegetarian thali increased by nine percent year-on-year due to an increase in onion and tomato prices by 93 percent and 15 percent respectively. Prices of pulses increased by 21 percent on an annual basis. These contribute nine percent to the price of vegetarian thali. The average cost of a home-cooked meal is calculated based on the raw material prices prevailing in North, South, East, and West India.
