Vedanta’s Rs 10000 crore investment proposal in Punjab stuck in ‘Red-Tapism’.

New Delhi, November 7 (PT): The investment of the J.S.W. Group and Vedanta Group to set up a cement factory in Punjab is awaiting approval from the state government.

Vedanta Group company Talwandi Sabo Power Plant (TSPL) plans to set up a cement plant in Punjab with a total investment of about Rs 10,000 crore. T.S.P.L. Ltd. plans to set up multiple cement plants near its existing power plant in the Mansa district of Punjab. One of these plants will be set up by the J.S.W. group.

Ash will be used to make cement.

T.S.P.L. will use fly ash released from the power plant to make cement. Sources said the cement project is awaiting approval from various departments of the state government, while the project could generate more than 2,000 jobs in Punjab. T.S.P.L. proposal has been awaiting approval from the Office of the Town Planner Chief and Director Factory of the Punjab Government for the last 18 months even after high-level assurances at the Invest Punjab Summit in February 2023. Punjab’s leading power-generating company T.S.P.L. recently moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court in this matter and sought its intervention to expedite the process.

T.S.P.L. runs a 1,980 MW thermal power plant in the Mansa district of Punjab. The company plans to use the ash generated from the power plant to produce cement in an environment-friendly manner. Also demanding change in land use for cement grinding unit. Sources said the project could not proceed due to a lack of approval for change in land use.
