IBM India claims: AI will create more jobs than it will destroy
Sandeep Patel, Managing Director, IBM India/South Asia, has said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will actually create more jobs than it will eliminate. Patel said that he has seen technology and many innovations evolving with time. I firmly believe that AI will create more jobs than it eliminates.
Jobs increased in these fields
People usually get very scared when imagining completely new jobs. For example, the advent of the Internet led to a decline in jobs in some sectors such as newspaper printing but resulted in millions of new jobs in web design, data science, digital marketing, and web publishing. So therefore it can be said that AI skills will play a very important role.
46% of companies in India are providing AI training
46 percent of companies in India are currently training or reskilling employees to work closely with automation and AI tools but there is still scope for much more. This is something the Government clearly recognizes. When we look at employees within the organization, 50 percent say they are excited to work with new AI and automation tools.
Not everyone can be an AI developer
Patel said in his statement that so, now the question is how do you train a huge group of people? Not everyone can be a coder or an AI developer, etc. As these technologies evolve, you have to learn to work with them. According to Rajiv Chandrashekhar, Minister of State for IT and Skill Development, the key to India’s progress in AI is technical talent, not chip-driven computing power. Also read this.
