The mayor of Brisbane has resigned from the 2032 Olympic organizing committee
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schreiner has resigned from the organizing committee for the 2032 Olympic Games. Brisbane was awarded the 2032 Games by the International Olympic Committee in 2021, but Schreiner’s resignation reflects a rift among the organizers.
Brisbane has formed a Leaders’ Forum to host the Olympics, which includes representatives from all three levels of government and other agencies. But Schreiner said that this group is being used only to please the stakeholders while all important decisions are being made by the state government.
Schreiner said on Sunday, “The reality is that we always want to be team players, but the state government wants to do politics.” We don’t need expensive stadiums, we need better transport facilities.
