RBI office threatened to bomb, demanding the resignation of Nirmala Sitharaman and Shaktikanta Das
There was a panic in the police department on Tuesday after a threatening mail was sent to the Reserve Bank here regarding the 11 bomb blasts in Mumbai, but no suspicious object was found at these places including the RBI central office building and two other banks. A police officer said that an email was sent to the email ID of the Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) at around 10.50 am from the ID named ‘Khilafat. India’ which included references to RBI’s new central office building, HDFC House in Churchgate and Bandra-Kurla. A bomb threat was issued at the ICICI Bank Tower in the complex.
According to the FIR, the person sending the email issued a blast threat and demanded that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das immediately resign from their posts and issue a detailed statement regarding the revelations of the “banking scam”. It quoted the email as saying, “11 bombs were planted at various locations in Mumbai and the new central office building of RBI in Fort, HDFC House in Churchgate and ICICI Bank Tower in Bandra-Kurla Complex at 1:30 pm.” But there will be explosions. All 11 bombs will explode one after the other.
The police officer said that the police searched all the places which were mentioned in the email but nothing suspicious was found at these places. He said that on the complaint of the head guard of RBI, sections 505-1B of the Indian Penal Code (disseminating false warning about disaster or its severity to create panic), 505-2 (making mischievous statements), and 506. A case has been registered against an unidentified person under various sections including -2 (criminal intimidation). He said that the matter is being investigated. Also, read this.
