New Delhi: The spread of new variants of Corona has started once again across the country. 20 new cases of subform JN.1 of COVID-19 have been reported. Of these, 18 cases were registered in Goa while one case each was reported in Kerala and Maharashtra. This information was given in the data released by INSACOG.

The Indian SARS CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) is a group of 10 national laboratories that was formed by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India on December 25, 2020.

The central government has asked states and union territories to maintain surveillance amid the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country and the emergence of the new JN.1 variant. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday reviewed the preparedness of health facilities across the country and stressed being alert to emerging variants of coronavirus.
