Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in India started producing special fuel for vehicle testing
New Delhi, October 26: India has started Production of specific fuels ‘reference’ petrol and diesel used for testing of vehicles. started on Thursday. With this India joins the select few countries producing this highly specialized fuel.
Presenting it, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that starting production of ‘reference’ fuel in the country is another step taken towards self-reliant India as it will eliminate the need for imports.
High-performance reference fuel is used by automobile manufacturers and vehicle testing agencies to test new models. India has been dependent on imports to meet the demand for these
specialty fuels for decades, but now the public sector Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has developed
products that will replace imported products. Puri said there are only three suppliers of reference
fuel in the world, which also includes American giant Chevron. Puri said producing ‘reference’ fuel domestically would also be cost-effective.
I.O.C. Chairman S.M. Vaidya said that in accordance with the government’s objective of becoming self-reliant, I.O.C. has also started production of this specialty fuel in its refineries.
